Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We started in 1991 when video "taping" meant recording to tape and editing with "deck to decks" was the norm. Technology changes but fundamentals are the same. It's still about trying to understand the audience needs and custom storytelling for the client.
What is your primary product or service?
Gifford Productions produces videos to help companies and organizations communicate effectively with their customers, employees and vendors with training, informational, and marketing videos.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Most of us come from a creative background such as music and writing. It's the fascination that pop art can be a powerful tool that keeps us here. We've refined our talents to produce for the specific needs of our clients with the same desire to reach motivate and interact with their intended audience. It can be a widget video on xyz but once in awhile that magic still happens.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Technology continues to level the playing field. To use an analogy, every kitchen has a stove and we can purchase great ingredients, but not everyone has the ability to make an exceptional meal. Thankfully good video is still hard to do, so I expect we'll be busy for awhile.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We travel to and work for national clients right here in Newton. Our 2013 travels will take us to Canada, Belize and Scotland.
Provide detailed directions to your location
10 minutes from Boston, off of the Mass Pike, in Newtonville, off of Walnut Street, near the supermarket that the Mass Pike runs through.
What type of payments do you accept?
MC and Visa accepted along with the usual faces and paper methods.
What are your hours of operation?
Best time to reach us is 9-5 weekdays.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
In the beginning we all feel the nervousness, a blank canvas, and the customer not really seeing what we're aiming for. The greatest compliment? When we hear "they loved it" followed by "can we do another one?"
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
Our tag line, "elevating products and services for a connected world to see."
